The U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on Russia's Aeza Group, a bulletproof hosting provider accused of enabling cybercriminal activities including ransomware attacks and darknet drug markets. The designation extends to executives and affiliated entities in Russia and the UK, alongside a crypto wallet linked to over $350,000 in illicit funds.

Bulletproof hosting services like Aeza Group provide infrastructure resistant to law enforcement takedowns, allowing cybercriminals to operate unchecked. "Cybercriminals continue to rely heavily on BPH service providers like Aeza Group to facilitate disruptive ransomware attacks, steal U.S. technology, and sell black-market drugs," said Acting Under Secretary Bradley T. Smith.

Blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs identified the sanctioned crypto address as a critical node in the group's operations. The MOVE underscores growing regulatory scrutiny of cryptocurrency's role in cybercrime.
